Here’s another super book if you’re racking your brains for a birthday present.
Petrol heads everywhere will love Roadside Relics – America’s Abandoned Automobiles.
It’s the record of Will Shiers’ 10-year travels across the US, photographing rusting, broken-down automobiles on lonely roads, forgotten fields and off-the-beaten-track salvage yards.
It’s got 250 photos in it. A gorgeous book.
The picture above is of a 1934 Chevrolet Standard Coach in Texas, which was abandoned many moons ago when the owners walked out on their homestead and headed west to make their fortune in California.
It’s been in the same spot ever since, ignored but for the attention of occasional hunters who empty an odd round into it.
Will informs me he was shown the vehicle by a rather eccentric local resident. Apparently this guy was convinced Will was a German spy on a mission to kill him!

A 1949 Buick against the backdrop of the Navajo Twin Rocks in Bluff, Utah.
A Farmall tractor in Nebraska.
According to Will, this Colorado scrapyard - like many he came across on his travels – was overrun with sheep. Not as fierce as guard dogs, but it means they don't have to bother mow the grass, he reckons!
This 1954 Ford was the only car at Mary Jane Tractor Repair in Alliance, Nebraska.

We probably should disclose that Will is also an employee of RBI, which published Farmers Weekly.
He can be found blogging at the Truck & Van blog...
Hi Adam,
Yes, good point - Will does work for the same firm as me - but it genuinely is a super book. I've already given it to someone as a birthday present...

"This regime (Israel), which enjoys the absolute help of some Western nations, frequently threatens the nations inside the region and continues publicly announced assassination of Palestinian figures and others, although Palestinian defenders !..!.! are labeled as terrorists and anti-Semites," Ahmadinejad mentioned.
