Game on

Kevan.jpg

I was lucky enough to be involved in the Gamekeeper of the Year competition earlier this year - it's run by Farmers Weekly and the CLA.

We'd planned a presentation at the Game Fair but, sadly, rain stopped play.

Anyway, we've now confirmed an alternative date - so I'll be heading up to the fabulous Northumberland Estates to meet the winner Kevan McCaig (pictured) on the 27th of this month.

I've actually been to the Estate once before, when I was on a walking holiday up in Wooler (I had the best venison sausages I've ever eaten from a butchers in the town!)

It's famous for, among other things, Alnwick Castle and its glorious garden.

Not sure how to address the Duke if I bump into him - whether it's Your lordship or Your Dukedom or what. Maybe I better get hold of a copy of Debretts before I go!

"Hello mate" should work. Forelocks are not for tugging.

Agree with you there, Mopsa. Funnily enough, I almost included one more line in that post saying: Or should I just refer to him as mate.
I've just written about the Countess of Wessex - hope you don't think I'm going all society on you!

Dampand Dusty:

I personally don't think one should be tugging any part of one's anatomy - The Duke of Northumberland.

I have met the Dukes brother a couple of times ( i think he is his brother, he is the bloke who is a barbour model) and he was canny. I just sed ''allright'' and he was normall... not the sort of upper class person you would imagine! His brother is a great shooter mind, i heard he is one of the best in the country.

I have been on the estate once or twice ( on a BASC shooting course) and the linhope end through ingram valley is lovely!!!!

Have fun!
