I must confess to not keeping abreast of developments in the Lib Dem leadership contest (frankly, I’d rather watch paint dry – or, for that matter, cheese ripen!)
It caught my attention earlier, however, when I heard about a plan by leadership contender Nick Clegg to tackle the affordable housing crisis in rural areas.
He’s planning a Home on the Farm scheme. He wants to reform VAT rules and the planning systems, making it affordable for farm owners to repair old buildings, thus providing low-priced housing for local people and allowing farmers to diversify.
Affordable rural housing is something the PM Gordon Brown has been talking about a lot recently, too. I’m encouraged by this – at least it’s on politicians radar. Let’s hope their words turn into action.

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.
