This is a lovely painting.
It's by artist Angela Davidson who, while travelling one day from her home near Insch to Elgin, called into Kennieshillock Farm, Lhanbryde, and asked if she could take photos of their Charolais bull.
"The bull, Harestone Tyrol, is a monster; just what I was looking for," says Angela.
The artist already has several pictures of cattle in her print collection. "When I say I'm painting a picture of a cow or a bull, people expect to see the animal on grass. Well that's not my style. As you can see from this latest work, I like to get up close and personal - not a blade of grass in sight."
After the initial reference photographs were taken, Angela set to work on the biggest pastel painting she'd ever attempted. The final result has been titled Ringmaster and will be one of a matching pair of pictures that will form the centrepiece of Angela's stand at the Royal Highland Show in June. Limited edition prints have also been produced from the original artwork.
For those of you interested in the animal, Harestone Tyrol is co-owned by Roy Milne, Neil Barclay, Archie MacGregor, Allan Fauld and Duncan MacGregor.
At this rate, Angela could join Tania Still and Jackie Spurrier on my list of favourite rural artists.
