The last ever Royal Show started today.
It's the end of an era because for decades this event has been a key date in the farming calendar.
They were talking about it on Radio 4's Today programme earlier. Let's hope Denis Chamberlain, the PR man for RASE who run it, is right and it does stop raining. I spoke to someone at the showground an hour ago and they told me it was absolutely chucking it down!

When are the peolple who run the royal going to admit that they alone have destroyed one of the best shows in the world and have been doing so for at least the last 10 years
They have got rid of nearly all of the macinary exibitors by overpricing the land plots making it unviable to exibit.
Moved the show more and more towards the retail and craft side and away from what farmers are interested in.
It is no wonder that LAMA amongst other shows have taken off in such a big way because they have catered for the things that the farmer are most interested in , The latest in mechanisation technologies and development.
I for one have gone to the royal for nearly 30 years to see what was new to farming but in recent years have wondered why i was there as the show has seemed to be getting more and more squashed into the centre of the show grount to make it look like there was more to see than what was realy there and as for the last Royal Show I spent the grand total of 3 and a half hours there and was totally bored as I had seen all of the stands so went home I usually spend 1-2 full days there It is no wonder that attendancies have been dwindelling because I can not be the only person to feel this way.
