A lifesize Aberdeen Angus Bull is emerging from a block of clay in a studio in Wiltshire.
He is the creation of sculptor Judy Boyt and is destined for a new shopping centre in Morpeth in Northumbria.
The mall has been built on the site of the old cattle market, where the 'black bulls' were brought from the borders of Scotland and local area to be sold - and the developers were keen to reflect the history of the site.
"He is eyeing you in a typical manner of Don't mess with me," says Judy. "I have had great fun trying to get close to these huge beasts and that is the typical look I got whenever I approached them, sketchbook in hand.
"I usually like to have a hands-on approach to learning about the structure and shape of an animal's muscles and bones - but the bulls were not always compliant, as you might imagine. I was advised to stay in the car while studying a bull at Bob Brickell's farm in Oxfordshire.
"This particular bull did not want to be a model while his harem was in the other field, but I got some great shots of him stomping up and down the fence, challenging us at every opportunity.
"Another source of research was at the Royal Welsh Show, where they were tied up and rather calmer, so the more intricate bits of their anatomy could be drawn and inspected."
The bull, which has taken three months to complete, weighs three quarters of a tonne in clay, but the version destined for Morpeth will be made of resin as it'll be in an elevated position so has to be lighter. He should be in place by November 12.

She's really caught the shape of the animal. Thought you might be interested in these pictures of bulls fighting on FWiSpace too
