Elfriede the chicken is best of friends with the sheep on one farm in Germany.
Owner Christian Meinhold reckons the Australorp chicken shuns the company of her on kind. Every night, rather than retire to her coop, Elfriede simply makes herself comfortable on a woolly back.
He believes her behaviour results from the fact that she was rejected by her mother at birth so would wander further afield looking for company and warmth - ending up with the flock of sheep.
