Forget sunflowers, lillies, carnations and chrysanthemums. If you want to say ‘I love you’ (or more likely, ‘I’m sorry’) the only bouquet to give your loved one is the brassica bouquet.
During the summer, one of Tesco’s most popularseasonal bouquets was mixed lilies and sunflowers. But after switching the sunflowers for ornamental cabbages, sales have rocketed by nearly 150 per cent.
Here’s what it looks like:
Tesco flower buyer Hazel Alexander said: “Brassicabouquets are the biggest new trend in cut flowers right now.
“Not only are they loved by shoppers but they are alsocreating an extra income for the UK’s brassica growers who have now found a newmarket for their produce.”
The bouqets are only soldin the autumn, during the UK brassica season but, even more importantly, the ornamental variety isn’t edible, so no nibbling!
