An American view of the English countryside

I stumbled across this article the other day, about an American’s experiences of living and working in London.

There are lots of things she doesn’t like (the lack of space, the lack of clothes dryers, exorbitant house prices) but of all the things she does like, the English countryside easily earns the most superlatives.

Here’s what she had to say:

“There is a deep love and care for the countryside that makes it compelling, and you can never tire of it. It is the work of a thousand years – a landscape built by man, layer by layer. A masterpiece.”
