£1,000 grants on offer to agricultural students from Kent

Kent County Agricultural Society has set up a scholarship scheme to help fund local students through their agricultural degree courses.

The scheme, which is open to entries for the first time in 2016, will help students from Kent studying agriculture, horticulture or another rural-based degree course.

It will offer three students each year up to £1,000 for every year of their course.

Students can use the money to cover any reasonable costs connected with going to college or university, including tuition fees, accommodation costs, living expenses, or equipment to help them study.

Applicants must be a resident of Kent and aged 18 to 25 when they start a full-time degree-based course in the following areas of study:

• Agriculture – arable and livestock
• Horticulture
• Forestry
• Equine
• Veterinary and Animal Management
• Environment and Conservation

To apply, students must complete an online form providing details of their previous and current study and aspirations for the future.

Shortlisted students will be interviewed by members of the Kent County Agricultural Society Board and the Farming and Education Committee prior to a decision being made. 

The application deadline for 2016 applications is 31 May and interviews for shortlisted applicants will be in June 2016.
