Tractor sales of all types (including vineyard, orchard and industrial types) in France in 2009 totalled 39,757, down 8.9% on the 43,661 sold in 2008, according to French machinery magazine Materiel Agricole.

However sales of standard 2wd and 4wd tractor models (ie similar categories to those used in the UK figures) totalled 30,650, down 9.8% on 2008.

Deere had 19.7% share of the market, New Holland 14.7%, Claas 14.6%, MF 10.3%, Case-IH 9.2%, Fendt 7.9%, Deutz-Fahr 6.8%, Valtra 5.7%, Same 3.5%, Kubota 2.3%, McCormick 2.2%, Landini 1.1% and Lamborghini 0.8%.

Curiously, sales of 2wd tractors were up 16.4% on 2008. But with only 284 units sold in 2009 (compared to 28,048 4wd tractors) it’s not going to make any tractor maker’s fortune…

The industry predicts sales of 25,000-27,000 tractors in 2010, a drop of 12-18% on the 30,650 sold last year.
