More than 3,000 Single Application Forms (SAF) need to be submitted in Wales over the next three days, according to latest figures from the Welsh government.
Wales has not applied for an extension to the deadline for claims under the new Basic Payment Scheme, so the closing date for submitting the SAF remains 15 May.
To date, 14,356 out of an expected 17,631 applications have been returned – although 2,300 of these are in draft form only.
More than 11,000 of the applications have been completed online and nearly 3,000 on paper.
Deputy minister for farming and food Rebecca Evans said farmers were reminded that applications submitted late would face a 1% penalty for every working day.
“It is worth remembering that the extension to 15 June in England does not apply if you are paid by Rural Payments Wales (RPW).
“Our online service in Wales is working well and has been described as “brilliant” by industry representatives, but given this is a new scheme and the form is more complex than last year any farmers yet to complete their SAF are urged to start it without delay.
“Please remember that this year, customers with Glastir Entry, Glastir Advanced, Glastir Organic and Glastir Woodland contracts will also need to submit a SAF to claim management payments.
“It is simplest to complete and submit your SAF via RPW Online as the online application can complete calculations automatically and carry out some validation checks.”
A spokesman from the Welsh government said 81.5% of applications had been received or were in draft form with four days to go to the 15 May deadline. “This is up by 23.7% on last year if you include the draft figure.”
