£3,000 student bursary launched in memory of Joe Henson

Applications are open for a new bursary scheme set up in memory of Joe Henson, former president of the Three Counties Agricultural Society and the father of farmer and Countryfile presenter Adam Henson.

Grants of up to £3,000 will be on offer to two students from Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire studying agriculture or a related subject.

The students chosen as the winners will receive up to £1,000 for each year of their course, up to a maximum of three years.

Application forms are available from the Three Counties website (PDF) and must be in by 1 July.

Interviews will be held during July and August and will involve a panel of bursary board members from the Three Counties Agricultural Society, including a member of the Henson family.

Ken Nottage, chief executive of the society, said: “The Joe Henson Bursary will support those within the three counties venturing into further education in agriculture or related subjects.

“This is something both Joe and the Three Counties are deeply passionate about and it forms just one part of our efforts to future-proof the opportunities within the agricultural industries.”

Adam Henson added: “The family are absolutely delighted with the bursary and believe Joe would have been so thrilled. It is an amazing tribute, besides being something with which Joe would have been so proud to be associated.”
