The dispersal of the Tynyreithin Holstein herd at Beeston Castle mart offered only 65 milking cows and heifers, but trade peaked at 4100gns at averaged £1232 a head.

Mid-Wales farmers Richard and Sheila Shearer watched as their freshly calved heifer Tynyreithin Kite Olivia took top spot.

Claimed by Northern Ireland buyer Ivan Robinson, this Painley Kite daughter is out of an Astre Starbuck dam with a best yield of 11,800kg.

Aberystwyth milk producer G W Watkin took two of the highest priced lots at 2700gns and 2600gns.

His 2700gns nod came for Tynyreithin Ford Barb X – a second calver by Alzi Juror Ford and out of Sterndale Astre Barb D, who goes back to Hanover-Hill Ned L Barb.

Mr Watkin’s 2600gns bid bought him Tynyreithin Lookout Duanna – a freshly calved heifer out of Mawson Storm Duanna.

The highest priced in-calf heifer made 2000gns to F W Furber of Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Averages: 64 cows and milking heifers £1232 (incl 19 heifer calves at £525), 19 served heifers £988 and 21 yearlings £629.
