84,000 farmers in England have been paid single farm payment

Over 84,000 farmers in England should now have received their full single farm payment, according to latest figures from the Rural Payments Agency.

This represents 79% of the estimated 106,500 businesses that put in a claim for the 2008 scheme year.

The value of the payments made to date equates to £1.1bn which is 67.4% of the estimated total fund of £1.63bn.

The agency says that its target is to make 75% of payments, by value, by the end of January 2009 and 90% by the end of March.
