The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive is expected to start on 1 April. Those who want to qualify for it should line up their application information and certificates now so they are in a position to go ahead as soon as the details are released, advised James Fulton of Berrys.

As the scheme was expected to attract a high number of applications, tariffs may reduce in further rounds, he said, so those who could proceed soonest may benefit most.

An Energy Performance Certificate and Green Deal paperwork would be needed and the scheme would offer best value to those not on the gas mains grid and heating their home with oil or LPG.

Biomass boilers, ground-source and air-source heat pump schemes were eligible, as well as solar thermal heat pumps. Projects already installed could also be eligible as long as they were installed after 15 July 2009.
