Agricultural workers were given a boost this week after the launch of the Environmental and Land-based Sector Skills Agreement for England.

The agreement will see Lantra, the sector skills council, develop an action plan to improve the performance of agricultural businesses, develop skills and raise the quality of workers coming into the sector.

Sir Don Curry, chair of the Sustainable Farming and Food Implementation Group, welcomed the move to help agricultural businesses become more profitable and productive.

“The pressure on farming is intense and the solutions for many farmers and other rural businesses involve changing and learning new skills,” he said. “This new agreement will be an excellent resource to help businesses.”
