A string of high prices marked a successful sale of the milking portion of Brian and Judith Moorhouse’s Aireburn Holstein herd at Skipton, North Yorkshire, where prices reached 9500gns.

Buyer Anthony Wills dominated the day’s trade to secure 11 of the 20 top-priced animals for the family’s 1000-cow Willsbro herd at Wadebridge, Cornwall.

The most fancied pair in the sale were from the noted Gail family that traces back to the influential Jim-Mar-D Astronaut Gail line.

First at 9500gns was Broomhill Grandslam Gail – a fourth calver that achieved a 12,110kg best with her third and was AI’d in March to Braedale Bambam.

Her 2002-bred Outside daughter matched that bid. She calved in February after an 8900kg heifer note.

Also bound for Cornwall among Mr Wills’ 31 purchases was the 5000gns Aireburn Terrason Echo, a VG-86 daughter of an Excellent Crudwell cow, going back to the famous Sleepy-Hollow Echo family.

A 4800gns call secured Aireburn Indro Sarah (VG-89) for Mr Wills – a second calver due in August to Talent.

Breaking his grip was local breeder David Booth who gave 4200gns for the second calver Aireburn Roy J Rilla, a Jordan daughter.

There were 45 lots at 2000gns.

Averages: 143 head £1906.
