Arla invests to boost production and efficiency

Arla is investing almost £225m globally in dairy expansions and new facilities this year. Improving production efficiency and reducing environmental effect are also priorities.

The biggest investment will be the construction of a new production facility in Denmark to manufacture highly processed, whey-based lactose products from the end of 2014.

A German dairy will get the second biggest investment, to increase production of milk powder and butter, while investment in a Danish dairy will be completed in 2013 to produce cheese.

Investment in efficiency measures will reduce dairies’ CO2 emissions by 2% this year and cut total energy consumption by 1.5%.

Arla’s new £150m UK dairy at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, is under construction and scheduled to begin production this summer.
