The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show has been cancelled because of the bad weather.

The three –day show attracts 60,000 visitors and was due to start on Friday 20 July.

But organisers decided to call off the event because the show ground is saturated and a further 40mm of rain is forecast to fall in the next two weeks.

The move follows the cancellation of two other shows in the county at Goosnargh and Longridge, also because of the weather.

A spokesman for the Royal Lancashire Show said the organisers felt they could not hold a proper county event if the showground became waterlogged. He added it will be another 10 days before the cost to Lancashire’s economy is fully known.

Looking to next year, show organisers are hoping to see the three-day event moved permanently to land at Myerscough, near Preston.
