Big investment from Scotbeef

Scottish meat processor Scotbeef is investing £16m in a new retail packing plant in Glasgow.

The state-of-the-art plant, designed to meet demand from multiple retailers and export markets, covers an area of 120,000sq ft and is due to open later this year.

Managing director Adam Muggach said:

“This is the biggest investment by any meat company in the UK, and possibly in the whole of Europe.

It demonstrates our confidence in the future and is good news for Scottish farmers.”

The plant will partly replace a smaller plant at Polmadie, which is being demolished to make way for a motorway extension.

Its two huge cold stores will each be the size of Scotbeef’s other processing plant at East Kilbride.
