A third calver by Hinton Decider drew the top call of 2000gns when 69 Holsteins went under the hammer at a four-herd production sale at the Bristol Sales Centre.

Cattle from Robert Horton’s well-known Hinton herd at Swindon, Wilts, were in demand and it was the Decider daughter from the herd’s Hilda family that led the trade selling to Mike Potter of the Libertyview herd.

Calved six weeks and giving 50kg a day, she was the highest classified animal in the sale (VG-88).

She is out of a Fatal dam and had given just over 9300 litres as a heifer.

Joining the ride home to Libertyview was the heifer Swallowdale Kendall Marie 12th, a GP82 daughter of Alfrag Juror Kendall.

Bought at 1800gns she was part of a consignment from the Elmes family’s herd at Swindon and was sold freshly-calved.

She is from of one of the herd’s best families and is out of a 13,000 litre dam by Formation.

And Mr Potter continued to claim more of the best on offer paying 1750gns for Hinton Lantzer Arabella (GP82).

This eight-weeks-calved daughter of Hinton Lantzer is out of a Comestar Outside dam.

Moreton-in-Marsh dairy farmers Messrs Oughton gave 1700gns for a calved heifer by Gordon.

Averages: Hinton – 25 head 1275; Swallowdale – 11 head 1221; Why-Not – 17 head 776; Gambledown – 11 head 664. (Norton and Brooksbank).
