Bulls meet a keen trade

Buyers were in an unstoppable mood when faced with an impressive parade of Aberdeen Angus bulls at a breed society sale at Carlisle.

They averaged 46 head at ÂŁ2310 and took bidding to 8000gns for a bull from Kinross, Fyfe, breeder B Hayward’s Lady Croft herd.

Lady Croft Bold Lad – bought by F Awde, Penrith – is a 2004-bred son of The Moss Fenton who has had a marked impact in the Lady Croft herd.

“He’s furthered our aim of producing thick, easily fleshed cattle.

His Breedplan figures rank him in the top 5% for a range of traits,” commented Mr Hayward.

A draft from the Lady Croft herd produced a 2800gns bid from H P Gostling and Sons, Aylsham, Norfolk, to secure a 2003-bred cow by The Moss sire.

Breeder P Holliday enjoyed a strong demand for a draft of females from her Dacre herd with a best of 2800gns paid for a Fordel Eisenhower cow (suckling a heifer calf by Wrae Bonanza Boy) taken by J C Lister Farms, York.

Bull bidding was solid with the day’s reserve champion – Haymount Galico – realising 4800gns for vendors J and W Arnott, Kelso.
