Campaign aims to dispel myth that local meat is expensive

With increasing talk of reduced consumer spending on food, a southwest butcher has this week launched a new campaign to persuade people that buying local meats from high street butchers is not expensive or extravagant.

The ‘Meat Smart’ campaign by Lloyd Maunder has been designed to highlight the value and quality of local meats available at its 14 outlets in Devon and Cornwall. It will run for nine weeks and will feature various promotions, plus special offers on pork, beef and lamb.

“Too many people wrongly assume that high street butchers are expensive,” said Andrew Maunder, who took over sole ownership of the chain in July this year. “The reality is that they’re the smart place to buy meat. We can keep prices competitive because we butcher the whole carcass, and customers can choose their cuts and quantities according to their budgets.

“We’ve also got the expertise and time to help our shoppers become more ‘meat smart’ themselves by telling them where their meat comes from, suggesting alternative cuts and flagging up anything that’s particularly good value that week.”

In the run up to the campaign local farmers were invited to ‘guest’ appear in their nearest Lloyd Maunder shop to enhance the local offering. To find out more, contact David Carter on 01392 432 782.
