Do you work on a farm or for a company or organisation that works with farmers? How do you feel about your job – the hours, the pay and how your manager or boss makes you feel?

Farmers Weekly has once again teamed up with De Lacy Executive to carry out a nationwide survey that aims to benchmark how wages across the sector compare and to give an insight into people’s level of career satisfaction.

We want to hear from people who are employed in on-farm jobs such as a farm manager, stockman, herdsman and tractor driver.

However, we also need to hear from people working for any companies that supply farmers with products or information – such as feed nutritionists, agronomists and consultants – or those that buy from farmers, such as grain traders.

We’ll be delving into whether you feel your employers are giving you the reward and recognition you deserve.

You’ll also be asked whether you would recommend agriculture as a job and to share your views on the development opportunities in the sector.

The information you provide when completing the survey will be treated completely anonymously, although all respondents will have their name entered into a prize draw with a £1,000 prize on offer.

“The aim of this survey is to get to the heart of how people feel about working in agriculture,” said Farmers Weekly editor Karl Schneider.

“The farming industry needs to attract new blood into the sector, particularly to work in the agricultural supply trade, so we need to make sure we offer attractive salaries and career plans. If we don’t, the talent crisis we are facing to fill some key positions will only get worse.”

To compete the UK needs well-educated, well-trained people who will readily adapt to changing demands. With this survey we hope to be able to contribute to the debate about how to attract, develop and retain these exciting people.”
