Farmers are likely to face stiffer penalties for breaching cross-compliance rules this year and the Rural Payments Agency has urged everyone to make sure they are up to speed with the compulsory legislation.
Until recently, the RPA has issued warning letters for most first-time cross-compliance breaches, particularly for cattle inspections. But under instruction from the EU, the agency will be stricter with payment reductions this year, making compliance even more important.
The starting point for payment reductions will be 3%. This will be increased or decreased, depending on the extent, severity and permanence of the breach and the number of times the breach has been repeated.
To help claimants ensure that they meet all their cross-compliance requirements, the RPA has teamed up with Farmers Weekly in the latest FW Academy.
