Dorset cropping farm offers income diversity

Extensive grain storage, a large modern stone farmhouse and free-draining Grade 3 chalk land make up the offering at Whitcombe Barn Farm, near Dorchester.

This Dorset holding has 340 acres of mainly arable land with some permanent pasture. Its six-bedroom farmhouse was built about 10 years ago and has an agricultural use restriction and a section 106 planning agreement tying the house to all of the land.

The range of farm buildings includes grain storage for about 3,200t – some of which is let for extra income.

Whitcombe Barn Farm comes to the market because its owner is moving to the USA, where his sons are farming. It is currently managed on a short-term contract farming agreement and has a guide price of £4.25m.

“This is a genuine farmer’s farm and in an area where little has come on to the market recently,” said Savills’ David Cross, who is selling the farm for the third time in his career. It has yielded more than 4t/acre this year.”

There is an entry-level stewardship scheme on the land. (Savills 01722 426 813)
