Farm award for women

Delyth Davies who farms 283ha (700acres) at Ty Nant Farm, Penybontfawr near Oswestry has been chosen as the new Wales Woman Farmer of the Year for 2005.


Mrs Davies, who lost her husband Hywel in a tractor accident, now farms with her son Eifion.


She is involved daily in the running of the farm’s 1300 sheep and 70 sucklers as well as keeping the farm records.


Besides being a school governor and a consultative member of the local YFC Mrs Davies took on the running of the village shop and post office four years ago.


Presenting the NFU Cymru/Natwest sponsored award, Dai Davies, the union’s deputy president, said he was astounded how women like Delyth Davies managed to fit so much into their lives.
