The 2 Sisters Food Group has reassured retailers that it will continue to meet retailer demand after a devastating fire at its key poultry processing plant in Morecambe.

The firms PR executive Peter King said: “We were alerted to a fire at our Morecambe facility at 2.30am on Bank Holiday Monday. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene and spent most of the day bringing the blaze under control.

“There were no factory workers on shift at the time of the fire and employees have been informed of the incident. We are looking at options to deploy staff to other sites to help us fulfill our existing orders.

“The full extent of the damage is not yet known, but it is unlikely that the facility will reopen immediately.”

Its Morecambe site produces a range of ready-to-eat and rotisserie chicken products for retailers and employs about 200 staff.
