Foulrice and Galtres top Worcester Charollais day
Pedigree and commercial sheep breeders competed for stock at the British Charollais Sheep Society’s Worcester fixture last week, where prices reached 7100gns and the shearling average rose £135 on the year.
It was a double celebration for the Marwood family from York.
Charles and Valerie Marwood’s long established Foulrice flock led the ram lambs at 5600gns while daughter Deborah Whitcher topped the sale with a 7100gns shearling from her Galtres flock.
Galtres Favour, much admired for his heavy muscling, scored the highest marks in the pre-sale Signet breed evaluation.
He is by Inglis Cymro and was bought jointly by Herefordshire breeder Geoff Probert and the Geldard family’s Wraycastle flock in Cumbria.
More Foulrice breeding from the Marwoods saw Foulrice Gladiator top the ram lambs at 5600gns.
By Ash Filibuster and bought in the same ring last year for 2100gns, he was the highest Signet scoring lamb in the market.
Gladiator will work in William Ingram’s Logie Durno flock in Aberdeenshire and for East Yorkshire breeder C Timm.
The Urlay Nook Endeavour son Foulrice Falcon made 3000gns to James Clanachan of Dumfries.
Sold outside the ring at 3800gns was a lamb from Northern Ireland breeder David Mawhinney.
His Rockvilla Golden Promise went jointly to Mary Tulloch (Rutland) and Charles Sercombe (Dalby).
New breeders Mr and Mrs Michael Alford from Blackborough, Devon, sold a lamb by Ash Filibuster from their Foxhill flock at 3200gns, selling to South Wales breeder Lionel Organ.
Averages: 39 senior and shearling rams 1100, 119 ram lambs 878.
