THE HOME Grown Cereals Authority has broadly welcomed the Cereals Industry Review findings, but has called for more specific details to take the recommendations forward.

“It is very encouraging to note that the key priority areas highlighted by the review are already high on our hit list at the HGCA,” said chairman, John Page.

“But further specific recommendations will be extremely valuable in providing emphasis and focus.”

The impact of the Single Farm Payment and the anticipated levy board review were highlighted by the report as two key factors influencing the future direction of the cereals industry.

These are areas where more work is needed, added chief executive, Jonathan Cowens.

Consequently, the HGCA will be setting up an internal cross-functional group to ensure their activities address the report findings.

The report allows the HGCA to focus efforts more accurately where required, Mr Cowens said, pointing out that non-food uses of cereals and oilseeds would be a key area going forward.
