Hull in store licence switch

Auctioneer Ralph Ward of Hull market – now the only livestock market in East Yorkshire – helps wife Diane unload a trailer of pigs from farmer James Evison of Moat Farm, Fitling, while auctioneer Philip Mortimer looks on.

The 270kg cull sows sold for about 53p/kg. Directors of Frank Hill & Son, which operates the site, announced this week that to assure its future, the mart would change from a dedicated slaughter mart to operating on a store licence.

This meant cattle and sheep vendors would need to comply with the six-day movement standstill rule, and a 20-day rule for pig vendors.
