‘Hundreds back FFA action’

Farmers For Action is planning protests against the major milk processors in response to a series of price cuts over the past few months.

FFA chairman David Handley told Farmers Weekly “several hundred” disgruntled farmers in the west Midlands had pledged to support any action in coming weeks.

The decision to resume demonstrations came after First Milk announced a cut of 0.75p/litre.

The cut took effect from 1 August.

Mr Handley said cuts by all the major processors over the past nine weeks had spurred dairy farmers across the UK into action.

“People are becoming increasingly desperate.

Many have simply decided that dialogue with processors and retailers has failed and that direct action is the only way out of this mess,” said Mr Handley.
