The term of the Sustainable Farming and Food Strategy Implementation Group is being extended by three months to enable it to oversee important developments in the farming industry.

Junior DEFRA minister Lord Bach has approved an extension to the group, which is led by Sir Donald Curry, to April 2006.

The group had been due to end in December 2005, but the minister has decided it should stay on so it can oversee progress on the Single Payment Scheme, Environmental Stewardship Scheme and Whole Farm Approach.

DEFRA is looking at SFFS delivery progress and arrangements for future governance after April next year and says it is keen to retain an element of external challenge.
