The Lakes Counties Jersey Cattle Club celebrated its 10th spring show and sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, with a top price of 1200gns for a freshly calved heifer from the Ravenfield herd.
Ravenfield Florence 9th, from Humberside consignors Ravenfield Jerseys, is bred from two generations of Excellent dams with good show records.
Florence 9th is by Munifordias Statesman and out of the prolific show winner Florence 5th. Her dam took the Jersey championship at last year’s Great Yorkshire Show as well as a string of titles at local shows.
Florence 9th was claimed by G M & A J Harrison for their herd at Leyburn, North Yorkshire.
The Harrisons were at the sale with the first consignment from their Hillside herd and achieved the day’s second highest price of 1080gns for the calved heifer Hillside Fusions Sapphire.
Bred from three generations of VG and Ex cows, she is by Molly Brook Fusion and from a show-winning dam by Rock Ella Remake.
Tracing back to dams boasting 8100kg yields, she heads for Northern Ireland with Roger Armour for his herd at Glarryford.
Lancashire breeder David Jones sold a calved heifer from his Bluestone carrying the Hoolebank prefix of D Pleavin made 950gns to J McGarva, Annan.
Averages: four cows 577, 12 heifers 598 and 12 maiden heifers 665.
