Joylan breeding underpinned the pedigree of the top priced heifer at the Western Holstein Club’s Beeston Castle meeting, where Atok Jordan Trudy PI realised 1750gns.

Champion under judge Andrew Hull, this Roylane Jordan calved heifer was bred from seven generations of EX and VG dams.

Consigned by Roddy Jones she is out of a 12,300kg dam by Be-Ware Juror Geno and traces back to Joylan Trudy, with a sire stack that includes Bellwood and Russelldale Promise.

She was bought by Peter Andrews for his Ruckhall herd.

For instant milk was there was nothing on the day to beat Burnbrae RS Lily 2nd from Shrewsbury vendor Jack Taylor.

This fresh second-calver had given nearly 9000kg as a heifer and was pumping out almost 50kg on the day.

By Richesse Stoneham and out of a heavy milking dam by Esquimau that did 13,300kg as a heifer, she made 1380gns to V & N Thomas, Carmarthen.

They also gave 1300gns for the calved heifer Whinchat Aeroline Thelma offered by Andy Birkle, Loughborough.

Judge Mr Hull, buying for Jimmy and Nancy Hull & Sons who are expanding their Fortland herd, gave 1220gns for Messrs Taylor’s fresh second calver Burnbrae Bonatus Amanda, who was giving 45kg on the day.

Averages: 25 calved cows 896, 52 calved heifers 1085 (Wright Manley).
