Lamb and prime cattle prices down at Dingwall

Dingwall Auction Mart, Ross-shire. New season lamb prices dropped by 2.5p/kg at Tuesday’s (28 August) sale, with 456 head averaging 175p/kg. A pen of 44kg Beltex crosses commanded the day’s top price of 200p/kg, or ÂŁ88 a head. Those in the SQQ 36.5-45.5kg band averaged 176p/kg, 2.7p down on the week. Feeding sheep averaged ÂŁ39.57 for 61 head, with Cheviot ewes peaking at ÂŁ59 apiece.


In the cattle ring 19 prime bullocks averaged 198.7p/kg – 7p down on the week. A 595kg British Blue cross and a 620kg Limousin cross both reached a top of 208p/kg, with a 750kg Limousin cross grossing ÂŁ1,492.50. Prime heifers dropped by 0.5p/kg to average 204.7p/kg, with a 555kg Limousin cross peaking at 219p/kg and a 645kg Limousin cross grossing ÂŁ1,315.80.
