LAMMA show organisers are confident there will be no repeat of the first day’s traffic problems when the event opens its doors for the second and final day tomorrow (Thursday).

Fewer visitors traditionally attend on the second day, plus the worse weather forecast prompted many to attend on the opening day, says LAMMA sales and marketing director Cliff Preston.

He apologised to showgoers caught in Wednesday’s congestion, acknowledging the “frustration” they felt.

It was, he said, the result of the big turnout for the event (early predictions suggested first-day visitor numbers could top 20,000), an accident near Tuxford and a Department of Transport tree-felling operation.

Organisers had discussions with the local police this morning. “We’re already planning what we can do better for next year. We will try to improve wherever possible,” said Mr Preston.
