Texel gimmers close to lambing met a good trade at Lanark last weekend, with a powerful shearling from Banffshire breeder Graham Morrison’s Deveronvale flock earning the top call of 1200gns.

Genotyped ARR/ARH, the gimmer is by Milnbank Hitman and out of a ewe by Cambwell Ace.

She is in-lamb to Glenside Lieutenant, a 21,000gns purchase last year and a son of prolific sire Castlecairn Keltic Star.

The gimmer returns to Banffshire with buyer Robbie Scott.

Another from the same pen heads north to Albert Howie, Peterhead, Aberdeen.

This gimmer, which cost him 1000gns, is by Durisdeer Instructor and out of a Glenside Gurka dam.

She is also in-lamb to the Glenside sire.

Graham Morrison reinvested some of his takings with a 950gns call to secure the champion from the Croft flock of Lanarks breeders R & E Howieson.

This ARR/ARR genotyped gimmer is by Teiglum Iceman and out of a ewe by Cambwell Handsome. She is in-lamb to Ryman Kitemark, a son of Ettrick Jedi.

Collecting the reserve championship was another from the Croft flock.

This gimmer is also by Iceman and in-lamb to the Ryman tup.

Buyer at 950gns was Keith Johnson.

Auctioneer Brian Ross said: “A good trade for all classes with everything sold.

That’s the end of the Texel sale season; everyone is now ready to settle down and get on with lambing.”

Averages: 56 gimmers 324 and three ewes 224. (Lawrie & Symington)
