BRITISH SUGAR has agreed to double the late delivery allowance for beet growers affected by processing delays at the Allscott factory, Shropshire.

From Feb 10, the allowance (initially worth £2.39/t) will be increased by 0.4% a day (12p), compared with the current 0.2% (6p) daily rise, said the NFU’s Mike Blacker.

The increase will apply to all beet, including “C” beet, and could be worth an extra 1.83/t to growers by the end of the campaign (about Mar 10 at Allscott), he said.
