The charity which educates young people about the countryside, Farming and Countryside Education (FACE) has used its 10-year anniversary to appoint former NFU president and life peer Lord Plumb as its honorary president.

“I am delighted to become the first president of Farming & Countryside Education. Having watched FACE grow and develop over the past 10 years, I have been impressed by its achievements in reconnecting young people with farming and the countryside,” said Lord Plumb.

“It is so important that young people, as consumers of the future, learn how to make informed decisions by understanding where and how their food is produced and who manages the countryside.”

FACE is a charity which works with over 80 organisations to provide practical experience with food, farming and the countryside for children of all ages.

Lord Plumb’s career mixed agriculture with politics, seeing him serving nine years as president of the NFU, 20 years as an MEP, as well as two years as president of the European Parliament.
