Dairy farmers supplying a Somerset cheese maker have used research from the Milk Development Council to set up a club to help develop their businesses.

Suppliers to Wyke Farms have formed a ‘foresight’ business club so they can meet and compare aspects of their own farm with others from the area.

Due to begin later this month, the club is run by an MDC extension officer who ensures the Council’s research is used by farmers effectively.

Specialists will also attend to offer advice in group discussions.

David Young, Wyke Farms’ milk supply manager, said the club would allow farmers to share their problems and successes.

“We expect club members to be those who are looking for information and support to help plan their strategy so that their business will not only survive, but deliver a much better lifestyle,” he added.
