Meadow Foods and Glanbia Cheese are the latest dairy processors to announce farmgate milk price increases this autumn.

Glanbia Cheese producers are set to receive a 1p/litre increase to 32.6p/litre from 1 October.

The company’s head of GB milk procurement, Phil Leigh, said the price increase was a result of improved market returns.

Meadow Foods will also be increasing its milk price by 1p/litre from 1 November to 32.25p/litre.

Executive chairman Simon Chantler said: “We had hoped prices would move in October and although we are yet to see price increases from the majority of the market, we feel it is important to keep the forward momentum in the marketplace and have therefore taken the decision to increase our price.”

These milk price announcements follow news today (23 September) that First Milk will up its milk price by 1p/litre from 1 November. The UK farmer-owned co-operative will pay farmers in its manufacturing pool 32p/litre and those in its liquid pool 31.85p/litre.

Last week (17 September) Muller Wiseman Dairies announced it will increase its standard litre non-aligned price by 1p/litre to 32.5p/litre on 21 October.

Muller’s price rise sparked the threat of further protests if other dairy processors failed to implement milk price rises for October.
