The new contract will see Bical’s producer group, BiSel, provide the Yorkshire–based power plant with 300,000 tonnes of the energy crop until 2016.
The crop will be sourced from land within 50 miles of the power station from spring 2008.
David Croxton, Bical managing director, said the new contract was great news for farmers and showed confidence in demand for the crop.
“We have a core group of farmers supplying miscanthus but we are open to more farmers joining our producer groups,” he added.
Farmers wishing to join the producer group should contact Bical . Members receive a consultation to determine their crop price.
