Morrisons has launched a free app, which aims to simplify cattle management.
The Morrisons Farming App can be downloaded for Android devices and will also be available for Apple users soon.
It includes a live link to the British Cattle Movement Service. Producers can use the app to register cattle births, deaths and movements and order new and replacement ear tags for conventional, electronic identification and DNA tags at discounted prices.
Animals can be grouped by pen or field for easy reference.
New farming technology could help improve food safety and animal traceability as well as animal breeding and husbandry, said the retailer, which plans to extend the app to lamb and pig producers.
Suppliers to Morrisons’ Woodheads sites can also automatically generate the Food Chain Information Declaration through the app. This information must be provided by all livestock keepers on cattle sent for slaughter.
