MPs will next week give their verdict on what caused the single farm payment crisis of 2005/6.
The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee has revealed that it will publish its report, The Rural Payments Agency and the implementation of the Single Payment Scheme, on Thursday 29th March.
The report should be interesting as the cross-party group of MPs published a damning interim report on 24 January 2006.
That report raised several concerns about the RPA’s ability to meet the deadline for making payments to farmers under the Single Payment Scheme.
MPs also accused former junior DEFRA minister Lord Bach of being complacent about the impact of late payments on farmers.
The impact of the SFP debacle can be seen by looking at FWI’s special report on the Single Payment Scheme.
