Two new malting barley varieties have received full approval for brewing use, following the Malting Barley Committee’s spring 2006 meeting.

Flagon and NFC Tipple were promoted from their provisionally approved position, while brewing approval was removed for Fanfare, Chalice and Decanter.

Oxbridge also gained full approval for distilling use, while Westminster moved to Provisional Approval 2 for brewing use (insufficient brewing data from the 2005 crop was available to promote it beyond this position).

The spring variety, Appaloosa was promoted to Provisional Approval 1 for distilling use, following successful micromalting trials last year, it said.
