The NFU is going head-to-head with Simon Cowell’s X-Factor prodigies after recording a Christmas song written to promote this year’s UK Turkeys website.

Based on the festive song The 12 days of Christmas, the traditional lyrics have been replaced with references to British food.

The song, which can be downloaded from the website, is designed to champion buying British, buying local and buying the best value food.

The site also has a list of 200 UK turkey producers, games, recipes, a choice of three “gobble gobble” ringtones and a competition to win a Bronze turkey supplied by Kelly’s Turkeys.

NFU senior web editor Helen Cotterill said: “We were looking for a fun way of promoting this year’s UK Turkeys website and recording a Christmas song seemed like the ideal way of doing it.

“The lyrics are great and all the staff involved had a laugh although we’re not that hopeful of claiming the Christmas number one spot.”
