CHOOSING ONE body to carry out all farm assurance inspections can provide savings for growers, according to assurance specialist EFSIS-FABBL.

“The one-stop approach means the number of inspectors and verifiers through the farm gate is kept to a minimum, saving the farmer time and money,” said Tony Blackburn, EFSIS holdings board director.

The Milton Keynes based company is writing to 3,000 fresh produce growers in the UK reminding them of the availability of the Assured Produce Scheme.

The scheme, first launched in 1997, aims to promote the safe and environmentally friendly production of fresh fruit and vegetables.

It is available to specialist growers as well as farmers where fresh produce forms part of a mixed business, Mr Blackburn noted.
