The beef and lamb sector has taken a step towards greater traceability with the launch of a one-stop shop for tracing assured English livestock farmers.

The assurance checker has been developed by Assured British Meat after complaints from abattoirs.

“If you were an abattoir and you had 100 cattle coming down the race, you’d have to check seven databases.

This has been driven by their call for a one-stop checker,” said a spokeswoman.

So far it covers the four English schemes: EFSIS-FABBL, CMi, Genesis and Soil Association Farm Assurance, and can be accessed at www.abm.org.uk.
